STE. GENEVIEVE -- Tommy Bolen had the kind of game most baseball players only dream about as the McDowell Capahas destroyed host Ste. Genevieve 25-1 in seven innings Wednesday night.
Bolen, an outfielder who is the son of Capahas' manager Jess Bolen, belted three home runs -- including two grand slams -- and drove in 11 runs. Bolen had four hits in all.
"Tommy just destroyed the ball," said Jess Bolen. "I don't care who you're playing against, that's some kind of night."
Many other players also had big nights as the Capahas improved to 16-5.
McDowell banged out 22 hits and also got a homer from George White. Steve Kress went 5-for-5 with five RBIs and Jeff Bourbon had three hits. White, Jim Wolsey 2, Ben Margowski and Jerry Wolsey all added two hits. White and Margowski each had three RBIs.
Four McDowell pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts.
Starter Jerry Wolsey got the win, allowing one hit and fanning two in three innings. Brent Self fanned five in two perfect innings. Todd Pennington fanned three in one inning. Lanson Debrock gave up an unearned run but fanned three in one inning.
The Capahas will compete in the Valmeyer (Ill.) Tournament this weekend.
