Thursday night marked another first for Caden Bogenpohl.

After debuting in the field and in the lineup earlier in the week, Bogenpohl made his first appearance on the mound as the Cape Catfish knocked off Rex Baseball 13-11.

Bogenpohl took over in the sixth inning after Marshall Brown tossed 2.2 innings allowing four runs on five hits and Raymond Ochoa tossed 2.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits.

Bogenpohl would prove to be a stopper in a pivotal spot for the Catfish as he tossed two perfect innings while striking out four.

“When I was warming up I realized I have never really been a reliever before,” Bogenpohl said. “It was new to me but I just wanted to go out there and compete. That’s all you can do in those situations and I came out chucking it and I felt great tonight.”

With Thursday’s appearance on the mound being his first for the Catfish, Bogenpohl said he wanted to keep things simple.

“I was just trying to make a statement,” Bogenpohl said. “I wanted to show them who I am and I threw the ball really well and I’m happy we won.”

With Jackson’s season just ending less than a week ago, Bogenpohl said adjusting to the Prospect League has been fun.

“I’ve had a blast,” Bogenpohl said. “The body feels great and there’s a lot of energy being with these guys.”

Bogenpohl credited Jason Chavez, Catfish pitching coach, and Jackson coach, for helping him adjust.

“I know I can always talk to him about anything I need,” Bogenpohl said. “He’s always going to be there to help.”

With Thursday’s win, the Catfish improved to 8-0 on the season and they will put their eight-game win streak on the line at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, when they travel to CarShield Field to take on the O’Fallon Hoots in O’Fallon, Missouri.

The Catfish will return to Capaha Park at 6:35 p.m. on Monday, June 12, when they host the Thrillville Thrillbillies.
