POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- After winning 11 straight games and climbing to a No. 4 ranking in Class 5, Jackson's boys basketball team lost its second straight game Friday night in a 69-41 rout against district-rival Poplar Bluff.

"For some reason the last couple of games we haven't shot with as much confidence as we did in the Christmas Tournament," Jackson coach Mike Kiehne said.

Unlike their one-point loss to Bell City on Tuesday, the Indians (11-3) could not keep up with the Mules (8-5). Poplar Bluff star Tyler Hansbrough, who led all scorers with 22 points, outscored Jackson 10-2 to start the game.

Jackson trailed 12-2 before using a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 12-11. Jackson stayed close early in the second quarter, trailing by two points twice, before letting Poplar Bluff get away.

The Indians' lone bright spot in the first half came when Nick Fiehler hit a midcourt shot at the halftime buzzer to cut the deficit to 36-25. However, Jackson could not carry the momentum to the second half.

Tyler Hansbrough stuffed home his third dunk of the game to start the third quarter and the rout was on. With the Mules already up big, Tyler's younger brother, Ben Hansbrough, scored nine straight points on three 3-pointers to extend the lead to 55-34 at the end of three quarters.

With a noon game today, the Indians rested their starters the entire fourth quarter. Jackson was led by Fiehlers' 10 points. Tyler McNeely was held to a season-low six points.

Ben Hansbrough finished with 15 points for Poplar Bluff, all off 3-pointers.
