Blues work overtime again for 2-1 victory

ST. LOUIS -- Pavol Demitra's overtime goal lifted the St. Louis Blues to a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.

It was the second consecutive overtime victory for the Blues (3-1-3), who knocked off the Minnesota Wild 3-2 Friday.

Demitra scored his sixth goal of the season at 3:35. Demitra got loose on a two-on-break and scored after getting a pass from Al MacInnis.

The Blues outshot the Penguins 3-1 in overtime and 26-15 in regulation.

After a scoreless first period, each team scored a goal in the second period.

The Blues struck first at 4:20 on a goal by Doug Weight after a mad scramble in front of the net. Demitra fired a shot that goalie Johan Hedberg blocked. Defenseman Darius Kasparaitus crashed into Keith Tkachuk, who rammed into Hedberg. The puck squirted off to the side and Weight chipped it back in for the goal.

Pittsburgh tied it at one on a power-play with a wrist shot from the top of the right circle by Martin Straka at 8:07 that beat Brent Johnson. Mario Lemieux threaded a cross-ice pass to set up Straka.
