The St. Louis Blues announced on their website Monday that defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk will undergo abdominal surgery after sustaining an injury in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals.
The news release said Shattenkirk will have the procedure performed in the next seven to 10 days, and then he will be listed as week-to-week.
The 26-year-old Shattenkirk, who participated in the recent All-Star Game, leads all defensemen with 32 assists. His 40 points rank second amond defensemen.
