CALGARY, Alberta -- The St. Louis Blues snapped an eight-game winless streak when Scott Mellanby's goal with 4:15 remaining lifted them past the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.
Keith Tkachuk gained the puck along the sideboards and worked it behind the net to Doug Weight, who saw Mellanby near the face-off circle. Weight passed and Mellanby wasted no time firing a shot into the top corner past Flames goaltender Roman Turek.
Calgary had a power play for the final two minutes of the game, and had a 6-on-4 advantage with Turek pulled for an extra skater in the last minute. But the Flames didn't get a shot on goal.
Calgary went 0-for-5 with the man advantage and had just nine shots over the final two periods, three in the third.
Chris Osgood stopped 19 shots as St. Louis earned just its second win in 16 games (2-10-4).
Tkachuk had the other goal, his 23rd of the season, for St. Louis (26-20-7-1).
Dean McAmmond scored for Calgary (26-20-5-3), which has won just three of its last 12 home games (3-7-2).
Turek returned to Calgary's net after sitting out two games and made 24 saves.
Turek was busiest in the first period, when he stopped 14 shots. He was sharp at times, but also had trouble controlling rebounds, which resulted in numerous dangerous scrambles in front.
Calgary tied it 1-1 in the second period when McAmmond and Shean Donovan executed a give-and-go down the right side.
After a scoreless first period, Tkachuk opened the scoring 8:35 into the second.
