COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ray Whitney scored a rare power-play goal for Columbus with five seconds remaining in overtime and the Blue Jackets beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 Tuesday night for their first home win.

The Blue Jackets got a power play with 24 seconds to go when Scott Mellanby was called for holding. David Vyborny fed Whitney, who carried it over the blue line and beat Brent Johnson for the game-winner.

The Blue Jackets had been 1-for-54 on the power play at home before that goal, by far the worst in the league. Columbus was also the only team that had not won at home.

Vyborny and Whitney combined to send the game into overtime with 1:15 to play when Vyborny took a pass from Whitney and bounced it off Johnson's back for his second goal of the season.

Whitney had a goal and two assists, giving him two goals and three assists in two games since his return from a chest injury that caused him to miss 11 games.

Keith Tkachuck opened the scoring with 7:15 to play in the first period when Scott Young's shot rebounded off Marc Denis. Tkachuck one-timed the rebound past Denis for his 10th goal of the season.

Grant Marshall tied the game in the second when he scored his fifth goal. Rostislav Klesla's shot bounced off Johnson and Marshall beat Johnson low off the rebound.

The Blues took the lead again with 7:15 to play in the third when Tkachuck's shot bounced off Denis and Pavol Demitra knocked in the rebound.
