FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- The Fredericktown High School football team improved to 2-0 Saturday as it picked up its second lopsided victory of the season.

Coming on the heels of a 31-point blowout of Crystal City last week, the Blackcats rolled past visiting Chaffee 39-6. The Red Devils are now 1-1.

"It was a tough game," said Chaffee coach Allan Horrell. "Fredericktown is real physical. They have some hard hitters and they're big. We're small. We stayed with them the best they could."

The Blackcats piled up nearly 350 yards rushing and almost 400 yards of total offense. The Red Devils had less than 200 yards of total offense.

Clay Hendrix rushed for 99 yards to lead the Blackcats, who held a 27-0 halftime lead.

Chaffee quarterback Travis Hanback completed eight of 23 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown, a 29-yard strike to Perry Rice in the fourth quarter.

Both squads will be back in action at home Friday night, Fredericktown against Festus and Chaffee against Piggott, Ark.

St. Vincent 44, Brentwood 6

BRENTWOOD, Mo. -- Derek Kutz booted three field goals and Jonathan Paulus passed for two touchdowns and rushed for a third as St. Vincent improved to 2-0 Friday night.

Kutz's kicks came from 37, 39 and 40 yards. The 37-yarder staked St. Vincent to a 3-0 lead at the 1:01 mark of the first quarter.

After Brentwood took a 6-3 lead early in the second quarter on an 87-yard pass from Conrad Damien to John Kalb, St. Vincent responded with 41 unanswered points.

The Indians went ahead for good on a Mark Gotto 17-yard run with 9:55 left in the first half and Kutz, who was a perfect 5-for-5 on extra point attempts, added the kick for a 10-7 lead.

Kutz upped the lead to 13-7 with his 39-yarder and Paulus hooked up with Adam Bockman on a 22-yard scoring pass with 28 seconds in the half for a 20-6 lead.

St. Vincent enjoyed another 17-0 quarter in the third period. Paulus passed 9 yards to Ryan Brown for one TD and rushed 2 yards for another, while Kutz added his 40-yard field goal for a 37-6 advantage. Aaron Buerck closed the scoring on a 7-yard run in the fourth quarter.

"We controlled the line of scrimmage and that was the key for us," said St. Vincent coach Keith Winkler. "We came out and executed and played with intensity."

Overall, St. Vincent rushed for 218 yards on 52 attempts. Bockman led the way with 13 rushes for 71 yards. Gotto added 64 yards on 10 carries.

St. Vincent will play its first home game Friday when Lutheran South visits.

Jackson 42, Sumner 6

ST. LOUIS -- In another game from Friday, Jackson moved to 2-0 as the Indians used a huge second half to roll past their St. Louis opponent.

The Indians led just 7-0 at the intermission but scored five unanswered touchdowns in the second half to put the victory on ice.

"We had a real good second half," said Jackson coach Carl Gross. "Part of it (the sluggish first-half play) was my fault. We ended up getting there earlier than I thought, we sat around in a locker room that was really hot and we had a real sluggish start.

"But we really took the game to them in the second half."

Mario Whitney rushed for 160 yards on 20 carries and he scored three touchdowns. Joe Walter also scored three TDs as he gained 69 yards on nine carries. Jackson had nearly 350 yards of total offense, including almost 250 on the ground.

Gross also credited the first-half punting of James Simmons, who averaged 47 yards on four kicks as he helped keep Sumner bottled up when the outcome was still very much in doubt.

"He kept them pinned, and our coverage was great," Gross said. "That was big."

Jackson will host Perryville Friday night.
