The Bell City volleyball team closed in on the 20-victory plateau with a 25-13, 25-17 home victory against winless Saxony Lutheran on Tuesday night.

Jenny Lathum had seven blocks and four digs for the Cubs, who improved to 18-3-1. Jessica Abner led in kills with five.

For Saxony Lutheran (0-13), Nicole Petzoldt had three kills and four digs, Stacey Manche had two kills and six digs, Meredith Hoffman had a kill and four digs, and setters Tiffany Haertling and Brooke Kasten each had five assists.

JV -- Bell City won 26-24, 25-8.

Jackson 25 25 North County 19 16

Jackson improved to 15-4 with a home sweep.

Leaders for the Indians were Natalie Koeper with 16 digs, Leslie Gordon with 11 digs and three aces, and Amanda Peiffer with six kills.

JV -- Jackson won 22-25, 25-16, 25-22; Freshmen -- Jackson won 25-14, 25-22.

Central 25 25 Chaffee 10 10

Melissa Espinoza and Carissa Wheeler combined for 11 kills in Central's home victory.

Espinoza had six kills for the Tigers (5-12-1) while Wheeler added five. Kristin Shirrell had six assists.

JV -- Central won, 25-11, 25-12.

Woodland 25 25 Scott City 20 18

Chelsea McCormick had five kills as Woodland won at home.

Also for the Cardinals (10-7), Lotte Cook had seven digs, three kills and three blocks, while Sasha Hutson had four kills and four digs. Rheanna Greer led in assists with 20, and Kyla Choate had 16.

Amanda Braun had four kills for the Rams (10-5-1), while Lindsey Amick recorded six assists.

JV -- Woodland won 25-23, 25-15.

Advance 24 27 25 Notre Dame 26 25 19

Advance captured a tight three-game match against host Notre Dame.

Stephania Jordan led the Hornets (7-11-2) with 10 kills, while Angela Broshuis had nine kills and nine assist. Alicia Reeves had 10 assists, Autumn VanGennip added six digs and Tori Gilliland recorded four aces.

The Bulldogs (8-6-3) were led by Ashley Nenninger with six kills and Meridith Medlin with 14 assists.

JV -- Notre Dame won 22-25, 25-19, 25-22.

Perryville 26 18 25 De Soto 24 18 16

Perryville edged visiting De Soto to even its Jefferson County Conference record at 2-2.

For the Pirates, Sarah Roth had six kills, Elizabeth Martin had five kills, Jocelyn Moll had five kills and 12 digs, Meghan Roth had 11 digs, Lindsey Lappe had 13 assists and Jennifer Ponder had six aces.

JV -- Perryville won 25-22, 25-23, 25-18; Freshmen -- Perryville won, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23.

Festus 25 25 St. Vincent 19 22

St. Vincent gave Festus a battle before losing at home.

The Squaws (17-8-2) received three kills apiece from Brooke Hayden and Lauren Schumer. Alaina Ernst and Lisa Abbott had 10 digs apiece, while Lacey Siegmund added four assists.

JV -- Festus won 25-14, 15-25, 25-20.

Sikeston 25 23 26 Oran 13 25 24

Sikeston edged host Oran in three games.

Mandi Wood had a season-high five aces for Oran (3-9-1), while Kayle Graviett and Cassie Graviett each had 10 digs, and Courtney Nenninger had two solo blocks.

JV -- Sikeston won 30-28, 25-17.

Leopold 25 25 Meadow Heights 18 23

Visiting Leopold prevailed in two games.

Shayna Maevers led Meadow Heights with five kills and three blocks.

JV -- Leopold won 15-25, 25-21, 25-23

New Salem wins two

New Salem Baptist Academy of Marble Hill won two matches at Eagle Ridge Christian School in Cape Girardeau.

After beating COS of Hillsboro, Mo., 25-22, 25-21, New Salem improved to 7-2 by beating host Eagle Ridge 25-10, 25-9.

In the opener, Martha Poole had 10 kills, Sarah Green had nine kills, Mary Beth Poole and Kelsey Barlow each had six kills and Laura Poole had 22 assists. Against Eagle Ridge, Laura Poole had 19 assists, two kills and an ace. Green added five kills and two aces.

BOYS SOCCER Jackson 1, Sikeston 0

Matt Mueller scored with about 12 minutes remaining to lift host Jackson (6-5-1).

Steven McKinney assisted on the goal, while Tyler Holman recorded the shutout.

JV -- Jackson won 3-0.

Notre Dame 5, Anna-Jonesboro 1

With Anna-Jonesboro fielding a relatively new varsity program, Notre Dame used a team made up of varsity reserves and junior varsity players. Mark Himmelberg, Ryan Willen, John Unterreiner, Joda Holloway and John Oliver scored the Bulldogs' goals.

CROSS COUNTRY Farmington Invitational

Saxony Lutheran and Jackson both had strong performances during the Farmington Invitational.

The Crusaders were second in the varsity boys division, while the Indians were second in the varsity girls division. Jackson also won the JV boys race.

The Indians edged host Poplar Bluff by claiming four of six singles matches.

Jackson (7-7) avenged an August loss to the Mules by reversing the singles advantage. Sarah Hinkebein won in singles and was part of Jackson's only winning doubles team.

SOFTBALL Poplar Bluff 4, Kelly 2, 9 innings

Kelly sent the contest into extra innings on Brittany Brantley's two-run single in the bottom of the seventh, but visiting Poplar Bluff scored twice in the ninth to prevail.

Kelly fell to 14-8 and Poplar Bluff improved to 21-2.

Kalie Hughes allowed three hits and two earned runs, but took the loss. She struck out 13 and walked 10. Hughes also had two of the Hawks' seven hits.
