Bell City rings up big win

BELL CITY, Mo. -- Bell City picked up a big, back-and-forth victory as it edged out Stoddard County rival Bernie 16-14, 18-16 Thursday in high school volleyball action.

Katie Kiemczyk led the Lady Cubs with six kills and 13 digs. Katie Spears had seven kills, three blocks and eight digs. Whitney Abner posted 14 assists and Amanda Bailey chipped in with seven digs and nine points.

Bell City improved to 4-1, with its only loss coming to Leopold in the championship game of the Woodland Tournament.

Bell City's junior varsity won 15-2, 2-15, 15-13.

MEADOW HEIGHTS 15-15

PATTON, Mo. -- Meadow Heights improved to 2-0 on the season with a crushing win.

Ashley Brune led the way with five kills and four kill-blocks. Holly Boyd added a kill and three kill-blocks.

Meadow Heights also won the JV contest in straight sets 15-7, 15-7.

ORAN 15-15

CHARLESTON 3-9

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Candice Duncan compiled 17 service points, including four aces, as Oran rolled to victory.

Duncan also added nine assists as Oran improved to 3-2. Amber Seyer delivered eight kills and had three blocks while Maria Eftink finished with six kills.

Oran prevailed in the JV match 15-8, 13-15, 15-11.

SOFTBALL

PERRYVILLE 5, WINDSOR 0

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Amanda Roth pitched a two-hitter to lead Perryville to a victory.

Roth walked one and struck out four as the Lady Pirates improved to 3-3.

Amanda Mahnken went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in. Jenna Schuessler went 2-for-3 with a triple and Amber Leible went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Lady Pirates scored one in the first, two in the second and two in the sixth.
