ST. LOUIS -- Cape Legion banged out 13 hits, but it wasn't enough to overtake Ballwin Tuesday night as Ford & Sons fell 9-7.
Cape Legion (10-8) scored four runs in the second for a 4-0 lead, but Ballwin countered with seven unanswered runs.
Ballwin tied the game 4-4 with two runs in both the second and third innings and moved ahead for good with a single run in the fourth. Ballwin added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for a 7-4 lead.
Ford & Sons ended its scoring drought in the eighth with a single run, but Ballwin answered with two tallies in the bottom half for a 9-5 lead. Cape added two runs in the ninth to account for the final score.
Steve Fowler suffered the loss, pitching all eight innings. He gave up 12 hits, allowed six earned runs, struck out two and walked one.
Todd Pennington led the offense with three hits. Andy Sweet, Chris Bradshaw, Shane Gipson and Craig Ringwald all finished with two hits.
Cape Legion returns to action tonight when Jackson visits Capaha Field for a 6 p.m. doubleheader.
