Tory Meyr
School: Jackson
Sport: Football
Coach: Carl Gross
Week Report: Meyr, a 5-foot-11, 155-pound senior, did a little bit of everything last Friday night in Jackson's thrilling 31-30 win over Sumner. Meyr, a wide receiver on offense, caught five passes for 104 yards, three for touchdowns, and also pulled in the game-winning two-point conversion. Defensively, he came up with an interception.
Season Report: According to Gross, Meyr -- a three-year starter -- is the undisputed leader of the team. He rarely leaves the field as he is a member of all of the special teams. This season, Meyr has caught seven passes for 141 yards. He has scored a pair of two-point conversions and has an interception in each of his first two games. All that on a team which has not been known to pass the ball much in recent years.
Coach's Comments: "He's one of the smartest players I've ever coached," Gross said. "He's another coach on the field; he sees everything. And he never comes off the field. He returns punts and kicks. He's intercepted some passes, he's caught some big passes and had some runs on reverses. You talk about a kid who's multitalented and he's it. His IQ is about 170 in athletics and he's a good student in the classroom also. He understands the game of football. He's the team leader and the kids know it. Sometimes (other players) look at him like: `How did you know that?" He was even like that as a sophomore."
