Heather Jenkins
School: Cape Central
Sport: Track
Coach: Lawrence Brookins
Week report: Jenkins -- after her worst performance of the season a week earlier -- rebounded with a pair of impressive throws to take firsts in the SEMO Conference track meet. In the discus, Jenkins boasted a toss of 137 feet, 9 inches. She threw the shot 38-9. Her discus toss was 38 feet farther than the runner-up and her throw in the shot beat second place by three feet.
Season report: A key member of Central's girls basketball team, Jenkins has put forth some impressive throws, especially for a sophomore. Earlier this season Jenkins broke a school record in the shot with a throw of 42-10. The record was previously held by former state champion Laura Lukens. Jenkins' throws this year have been some of the best recorded in the state this season.
Coach's comments: "Her season has been strong," Brookins said. "She's had to deal with some negative moments also. She's had some weekends that didn't meet her standards, but that's part of the learning process. She fell down in the Kirkwood meet, but responded with good week this week. She's such a strong girl, you forget she's a sophomore."
