Eric Yount
School: Cape Girardeau Central
Sport: Swimming
Coach: Dayna Powell
Season Report: Yount finished the season undefeated in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. He also posted a state-qualifying time in the 200 freestyle. He will participate in the 50 and the 100 in the state meet on Friday, as well as the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. Central's 9-3-1 record is its best in nine years. Yount also bettered his own team 50-freestyle record which he set last year with a :22.31 performance.
Week Report: Yount helped his team win two meets last week, including a 104-80 victory last Monday over DeSmet, a team which Cape hasn't beaten in at least four years. Last Tuesday, Yount helped the Tigers take a 97-89 win over Parkway Central with, of course, wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Central also took first place in the medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Coach's comments: "If I looked at one of my most-improved athletes over the past four years, he would definitely be one of them," Powell said. "He came from a freshman who wasn't near a state cut to going undefeated this year."
