Courtney Haman
School: Cape Central
Sport: track
Coach: Lawrence Brookins
Week Report: Haman, a senior, took two firsts in Saturday's 33rd annual Cape Central relays and was part of two field-event relay teams which tied or set a meet record. She jumped a meet-best 5-foot-4 as the high jump team tied a record of 15-4. In the triple jump, her distance of 33-10 1/2 was second best, but the team broke a record with a combined jump of 99-10. Haman also took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of :16.13.
Season Report: Haman is undefeated in the high jump. Her highest jump has been 5-foot-6, which is a mark that Brookins said draws NCAA Division I interest. Haman has also been nearly unbeatable in the 300 hurdles, the triple jump and the 100 hurdles.
Coach's Comments: "She's fought through injuries and still has managed to do well. She's in four events, the maximum you can let a kid compete in. We're wearing her out, but she likes it and she responds to challenges. One of the first things I noticed about her when I didn't know her from the man in the moon was that she cares about people. She's unselfish and she likes to see others do well. She's a heck of a competitor herself."
