Chris Bergerson
School: Cape Central
Class: Senior
Sport: Basketball
Position: Forward
Coach: Brett Reutzel
Week report: Bergerson poured in 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in an 81-67 loss at state-ranked Charleston on Tuesday. In Central's regular-season finale at Ste. Genevieve on Friday, the 6-foot-5 Bergerson totaled 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 102-63 victory over the Dragons.
On the season: In his first season as a full-time starter at Central, Bergerson leads the Tigers in scoring and rebounding. Bergerson averages 15 points and 10 rebounds a game, pushing the Tigers to a 10-14 regular-season mark.
Coach's comments: "Chris has led us in scoring and rebounding all year long. He's had several double-double games (totaling at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in the same game). He's a good passer, a good defender; he's just an all-around complete player. He's 6-5, but can put the ball on the floor and take it to the basket. He's very coachable and has a good attitude."
Rachael Schlosser
School: Notre Dame
Class: Senior
Sport: Basketball
Position: Forward
Coach: Jerry Grim
Week report: Schlosser, a two-year starter, averaged eight points and eight rebounds last week. Not outstanding numbers, but considering the Lady Bulldogs' balanced statistical production, Schlosser's consistent play led Notre Dame to two big victories. Schlosser grabbed 11 rebounds at home in a 46-33 win over Kelly on Thursday then scored 11 points Saturday afternoon in a 46-41 victory at Cape Central.
On the season: Averaging 8.7 points and 4.5 rebounds a game, the 5-foot-8 Schlosser is second in both categories for the state-ranked Lady Bulldogs. She shoots 48 percent from the field and has improved her free-throw percentage from 50 percent last year to 64 percent this season. Schlosser was named to all-tournament teams at Perryville and in the HealthSouth Classic at the Show Me Center. Notre Dame is ranked No. 10 in Class 2A.
Coach's comments: "Rachael's very physical and plays a lot bigger than she is. She's only 5-8, but plays against a lot of kids taller than her. She's a strong girl. She works hard -- in practice and in the games. She's been a real pleasure to coach."
