Southeast Missouri State athletics director John Shafer announced Monday the promotion of Kristi Ewasko to interim coach of the school's gymnastics program.

Ewasko had been the team's acting head coach after the Oct. 19 departure of former coach Tom Farden. Ewasko had been an assistant to Farden, who was at Southeast for 10 years before accepting an assistant position at the University of Arkansas.

A national search was conducted before the decision to promote Ewasko.

"She is familiar with the program and is committed to maintaining our excellence in gymnastics and academics," Shafer said in a news release.

Southeast opens its 2010 season Jan. 9 at Illinois-Chicago.
