DETROIT -- The Oakland Athletics won their 12th straight game, with John Mabry hitting a go-ahead double during a five-run rally in the eighth inning for a 10-7 victory Sunday over the Detroit Tigers. DETROIT -- The Oakland Athletics won their 12th straight game, with John Mabry hitting a go-ahead double during a five-run rally in the eighth inning for a 10-7 victory Sunday over the Detroit Tigers.

The AL West leaders improved to 13-4 in August. The Athletics' winning streak is their longest since they set an Oakland record with a 14-game string in 1988.

The Tigers lost their fifth straight game. Randall Simon hit a grand slam and tied a career high with five RBIs.

Oakland trailed 7-2 after four innings and was still down 7-3 going into the eighth. Pinch-hitter Greg Myers homered to begin the comeback, and Eric Chavez and pinch-hitter Myers delivered two-run doubles for an 8-7 lead.

Jermaine Dye hit a two-run homer in the ninth for the Athletics.

The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against Billy Koch. But Koch struck out pinch-hitter Wendell Magee and Brandon Inge for his 33rd save in 38 chances.

Jim Mecir (4-3), the fifth of six Oakland pitchers, worked 1 1-3 innings for the win. Jamie Walker (1-1) took the loss.

Angels 8, Red Sox 3

BOSTON -- Pinch-runner Chone Figgins, making his major league debut, scored the tiebreaking run on a squeeze bunt in a five-run ninth inning as Anaheim beat Boston.

Figgins scored ahead of pitcher Derek Lowe's throw on David Eckstein's bunt. Then pinch-hitters Alex Ochoa and Bengie Gil each drove in two runs -- Ochoa with a single and Gil with a triple.

The Angels lead the AL wild-card race. The Red Sox are 3 1/2 games behind Anaheim.

With Figgins running on the pitch, Eckstein bunted straight to Lowe (17-6), whose throw to catcher Jason Varitek was late.

Scott Schoeneweiss (9-7) pitched the last two innings, retiring all six batters.

Mariners 12, Indians 4

CLEVELAND -- Ben Davis homered twice, including a grand slam, and Freddy Garcia pitched eight strong innings to lead Seattle.

Bret Boone had four hits and three RBIs for Seattle, which scored eight runs by the third inning after losing the first two games of the series on game-winning home runs.

Garcia (14-9) settled down after a rough first inning to get his first road win since June 19.

Rangers 6, Yankees 2

NEW YORK -- Rookie Joaquin Benoit held baseball's most prolific offense scoreless until the seventh inning, leading Texas over New York.

Alex Rodriguez drove in his major league-leading 113th run, Michael Young had two RBIs and Herbert Perry homered for the Rangers, who won for the seventh time in 10 games.

Benoit (3-2) allowed two runs and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings.

Royals 4, Twins 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chuck Knoblauch hit a leadoff home run and Michael Tucker and Raul Ibanez also hit solo shots as Kansas City snapped a six-game home losing streak.

Miguel Asencio (3-4) won for the first time since July 14, going 0-2 in seven starts in that span. He did not allow a hit until the fourth inning.

Blue Jays 5, Orioles 2

BALTIMORE -- Josh Phelps homered, and Vernon Wells had three hits and two RBIs as Toronto won its first series in six tries.

Baltimore's Mike Bordick broke Cal Ripken's major league record for consecutive errorless chances by a shortstop, throwing out leadoff hitter Shannon Stewart on a grounder in the first inning to run his string to 429.

Bordick went on to complete his 81st game in a row without an error.

White Sox 8, Devil Rays 3

CHICAGO -- Aaron Rowand hit a two-run homer and Gary Glover pitched four-hit ball through seven innings as Chicago defeated Tampa Bay.
