ST. LOUIS -- Jackson High's wrestling team qualified eight athletes for sectional competition as the Indians placed third out of eight squads during Saturday's Class 4A, District 1 Meet at Lindbergh.

Meanwhile, Cape Girardeau Central advanced three wrestlers to next Saturday's 4A sectional at Parkway South.

The top four finishers in each weight class at the district meet qualified for sectionals, from where the top four placers will advance to state.

Oakville won the district team title with 202 points. Fox was second with 173 and Jackson placed third with 132.

Lindbergh was fourth with 111.5, followed by Northwest (106.5), Poplar Bluff (54), Cape Central (48.5) and Mehlville (42.5).

Jackson had one individual champion as Adam Wachter finished first at 140 pounds.

Placing second for the Indians were Ricky Feiner (112), Brett Stroud (125), Cyle Huck (130) and Ray Goodson (215). Finishing third for the Tribe were J.P. Sides (103), James Love (152) and Spencer Hobeck (heavyweight).

"I was real proud of the eight who qualified," said Jackson coach Steve Wachter. "I thought we could have maybe gotten 10 through, but it was a really tough district, one of the best in the state."

For Cape Central, Leland Woelk (140) placed second while Josh Goodrich (145) and O.J. Turner (171) were both third.
