Williams claims medalist in Chip-A-Ways action

Linda Williams was the medalist Tuesday in J.C. Chip-A-Ways golf action at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.

Evelyn Riley and Waunita Van Dyke tied atop the B class.

Bonnie Miller and Dottie Gill tied for low putts. Sharon Dow won the play of the day, which was longest putt on No. 15.

The Chip-A-Ways will play their guest tournament next week with 48 teams registered to play.

Local hunters place in NWTF turkey shoot

Kirk Hendershot and Tim Hendershot, both of Cape Girardeau, placed among the top 10 at the National Wild Turkey Federation's 13th annual Turkey Shoot in August in Forsyth, Ga,

The event attracted 600 shooters from around the country.

Kirk Hendershot placed first in the Junior Concurrent Event-Hunters Division's Master Class by breaking 133 clay targets.

The Hunters Division was for recreational shooters while the National Sporting Clays Association had a division for competitive and professional shooters.

Tim Hendershot placed seventh in the 200 Main Event-Hunters Division B Class. He broke 119 clay targets.

Dickmann named to national Legion boards

Homer Dickmann of Cape Girardeau was appointed to the American Legion's National Americanism Commission.

Dickmann has been a member of Legion Post 63 in Cape Girardeau for 37 years, has been the District 14 baseball chairman for 37 yards and a member of the Department of Missouri Baseball Corporation for 34 years. For the past 20 years, he has served as the Missouri department chairman.

His appointment to the national committee places Dickmann on the National Baseball Sub-Committee, which makes rules and regulations for he 5,100 American Legion baseball programs competing in the 51 departments. He also was appointed to the three-member appeal board.
