Memphis racer takes top prize in USCS event

BENTON, Mo. -- Eddie Gallagher, the United Sprint Car Series champion three years ago, won the 30-lap USCS event Saturday at Auto Tire and Parts Racepark.

Gallagher, the track's all-time winner with 26 victories, earned $2,000 for the 30-lap win. Paul Sides of Memphis led seven laps early before giving way to Gallagher, who led Sides, Jeff Swindell, Mike Ward and Ernie Ainsworth to the finish in a top-five sweep by Memphis racers.

Locally, Shawn King of Cape Girardeau won the B-main to transfer to the feature.

Robert Powers of Campbell, Mo., won the special $1,000 top prize in modifieds after battling Danny Sissom for the lead. Greg Geiler was second, Chris Hall third, Larry Hull fourth and Sissom fifth.

Kevin Holman's first trip to the track paid off with a win in pure stocks. Behind Holman were Leo Kiefer, Greg Casey, Theran Pearl and Ronnie Tilley.

Mark Henry and Jason Owens won in cruisers over Josh Southard and Shawn Koenig.

Elfrink, Raines win horseshoe event

JACKSON, Mo. -- Tyler Elfrink and Jason Raines won the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association's event Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Rose Kern and Karen Jansen finished second and Irv Vandeven and Rick Garland placed third.

The organization's next events will be Saturday at Schindler's Tavern in New Hamburg, Mo., and Sunday at the Benton American Legion in Benton, Mo. Play begins at 1 p.m. both days.
