Jackson's Leet says she'll attend SMU

JACKSON, Mo. -- Jackson High School senior Jenna Leet has given a verbal commitment to play college basketball at Division I Southern Meth-odist University in Dallas.

Leet, a versatile 6-foot guard/ forward, earned first-team all-state honors as a junior. She averaged 18 points per game last year.

The early signing period for basketball is in November.

SLU leads Southeast golfers by a stroke

Saint Louis University featured the top two individual scorers and led the 2002 Dr. Morton B. Harris Intercollegiate Tournament after two rounds Monday at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Saint Louis shot rounds of 286 and 280 for a 566 total and leads host Southeast Missouri State University (277-290--567) by one stroke. Eastern Illinois, 568, is another stroke back in the 12-team field.

St. Louis' Evan Frederick had rounds of 69-65 for a 6-under-par 134 total. He leads teammate Adam Trower (66-69) by a stroke and Southeast's Matt Hillis (69-69) by four shots.

The tournament ends today.

Southeast volleyball player nets OVC weekly honor

Southeast Missouri State University's Emily Scannell is the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week.

Scannell, a junior setter, helped the Otahkians win three of four matches last week, including a second-place finish at the Bradley Tournament as she made the all-tournament team.

For the week, Scannell averaged 12.64 assists per game.
