Heartland Nationals drop to 1-2 at Series
The Heartland Nationals 12-and-under softball team couldn't rally from an early deficit, as it fell to Angola, Ind., 7-4 at the Babe Ruth League World Series in Wilson, N.C., on Monday.
The loss dropped the Nationals to 1-2 in the tournament.
Angola struck for two runs in the first, but the Nationals tied it with two in the third. Angola answered with two of its own in the third. Angola added one in the fourth and Heartland got within one with two in the fifth, but Angola also got two in the fifth for the final margin.
Summer Burger went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs in the loss. Hali Rendleman went 1-for-3 with a run scored and knocked in one. Brandi Glastetter and Ashton Elfrink also knocked in a run apiece for Heartland.
Burger took the loss on the mound.
Heartland returns to action today when it plays Luzerne County, Pa., at 11 a.m.
Berry, Moore win junior tennis titles
David Berry and Campbell Moore won the 18-and-under individual titles at the Jammin' Juniors tennis tournament at the Southeast Missouri State tennis courts.
Berry defeated Patrick Duffy 7-5, 6-2 in the boys final.
Moore swept Erinne Haff 6-4, 6-3 in the girls final.
In novice boys, Joshua Hicks successfully defended his title with an 8-6 victory over Ryan Watts.
In novice girls, Reagan Kapp defeated her sister, Kelly Kapp, 8-7.
Owens wins handicap tourney at Dalhousie
Eileen Owens placed first in a ladies handicap tournament Saturday at Dalhousie Golf Club.
Owens finished with a 64 while Robin Davis was second at 69, followed by Terri Parmly (70) and Deanna Estes (72).
