Softball team winstournament title

The Heartland Nationals 12-and-under girls softball team won The Battle of Bluff Tournament in Poplar Bluff, Mo., on Saturday.

The Nationals first beat the Paragould (Ark.) Fusion 13-8 behind the pitching of Ashton Elfrink and two hits by Brandi Glastetter.

Heartland then edged the Poplar Bluff Merchants 4-3, with Glastetter getting the win on the mound and Courtney Scheeter banging a triple among her two hits.

Summer Burger starred in the 6-2 title-game win over the Jonesboro (Ark.) TNT, pitching a four-hitter and having three hits of her own.

The Nationals open play in the Babe Ruth World Series on Aug. 3 in Wilson N.C.

Cape all-stars defeatMinnesota state champs

The Cape Girardeau 10-year-old all-star Cal Ripken baseball team beat the Minnesota state champions 4-2 on Sunday in Scottsbluff, Neb.

The Cape will play in today's championship round.

Scott County teamwins regional tourney

The Scott County 11-year-old all-star Cal Ripken baseball team won its regional tournament Sunday, beating the North Dakota state champions 4-1 in Grand Forks, N.D.

The Scott County team advanced to the 11-year-old Cal Ripken World Series in Van Buren, Ark.

Giebler-Kidd claim Dalhousie tournament

The team of Brevin Giebler and Forrest Kidd won the member-member quota tournament played Saturday and Sunday at Dalhousie Golf Club with a plus-12 score.

Mark Unger and Ken Swinford were second with plus 10, while Aaron Dombrowski and Jeff DeWitt were third with plus 9.

Saturday's closest-to-the-pin winners were Ken Swinford (No. 5), Mark Unger (8), Greg Howard (11) and Forrest Kidd (13).

Sunday's closest-to-the-pin winners were Greg Howard (5), Bill Morgan (8), Brevin Giebler (11) and Ken Carmonde (13).
