Simmons fires 75at Gateway junior event
Tim Simmons shot a tournament-low 3-over-par 75 to win the boys 16 to 19 18-hole tour division Monday a the Gateway PGA Junior Series event at Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson.
Jack Connell Jr. (76) finished a stroke behind and Alex Reid (78) took third.
Eric Hayes placed first in the 14 to 15 tour division with a 79. Second-place finisher Tanner Werner also carded a 79. Tanner McKinney (80) was third.
In the 18-hole regular competition, Jesse Hency won boys 12 to 13 with an 83; Brandon Trapp (76) won boys 14 to 15; Joe Wiggins (80) won boys 16 to 19; Emily Matthews (88) claimed first in girls 16 to 19.
In nine-hole competion, Gabe Wheeler (51) won boys 10 to 11; Hayden Combs (50) claimed boys 12 to 13; and Luke Mueller (51) won boys 14 to 18.

Cook, LeGrand winhorseshoe competition
Lachelle Cook and Ron LeGrand teamed up to win the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association event Sunday at the Knights of Columbus in Leopold.
Randy Grady and Dawn Morrow placed second, while the team of Darrel Vandeven and Terrie Rose finished third.
The organization's next event will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Oran Knights of Columbus Picnic.
Marble Hill racersfare well at Sikeston
Racers from Marble Hill, Mo., won three events Saturday night at Sikeston Racepark.
Winners from Marble Hill were Wayne Martin (90 stock), John Davault (2stroke) and Cody Barrett (450AM).
