Hogan to throw out first pitch at Miners game

The Southeast Missouri State University Alumni Association is hosting Southeast Night at Saturday's Southern Illinois Miners baseball game, with Redhawks baseball coach Mark Hogan throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Frontier League contest against Traverse City, Mich., begins at 7:05 p.m. at Rent One Park in Marion, Ill.

The Miners, in their first season, lead the independent Frontier League in attendance with an average of more than 5,200 per game.

Tickets for Saturday are $20 each. The price includes a pre-game picnic at 6:05 p.m. that includes an all-you-can-eat buffet of hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad, chips and soda.

Sentel, Rendlemanwin at Rebecca's Run

Roberta Sentel and Brenda Rendleman posted a low-gross total of 138 to win the championship flight in the two-day Rebecca's Run tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club.

The tournament consisted of a two-lady scramble format the first day and a two-lady 4-ball handicap format the second day.

In championship low net, Jo Billings and Megan Aggy tied for first with Jennifer Coad and Terri Parmly at 143.

In A flight, Joella Jones and Brandi Brown shared first in low net with Mary Jane Eftink and Linda Tewis. Both teams finished at 149.

Betty Dewitt and Robin Davis won low net in B flight with a 148, and Joan Harris and Joann Taylor claimed low net in C flight with a 151.

Kathy Morris was medalist at the Women's Golf Association's Crier's tournament played Thursday at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Janet White, Luanne Kiefner and Betty Michel tied for second.

Joyce Kuntze and E.R. Fischer won Wednesday in the P.M. League,

Johnson fires aceat Cape Girardeau C.C.

Flo Johnson carded a hole in one Wednesday at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Johnson used a driver to ace No. 13, a par 3 playing 130 yards. Witnesses were David Johnson, Connie Fox and Bob Fox.

Arpin, Knudtson place at PGA Junior sectional

Tyler Arpin and Gunnar Knudtson, both of Cape Girardeau, placed in the top four in the boys 12 to 13 division at the Gateway Jr. PGA nine-hole sectional championship this week at Ballwin Country Club.

Arpin placed second with nine-hole totals of 42 and 39 for an 81 total. Knudston shot 42-41 for an 83 and fourth place.

Also in 12 to 13, Ben Murray of Poplar Bluff, Mo., finished at 49-45--94.

Competing in boys 10 to 11, were Garret Callahan (49-52--101) of Farmington, Mo., Gabe Wheeler (52-51--103) of Sikeston, Mo. , and Ryan McVey (65-57--122) of Poplar Bluff.

The 18-hole sectional championship will be played Monday and Tuesday at Crystal Springs Quarry in Earth City, Mo.
