Local gymnasts place in AAU national meet
The Heartland Gymnastics team had 14 top-six finishes from seven gymnasts in June at the AAU Age Group National Championships in Orlando, Fla.
Ethan Osburn had seven top-four finishes in the boys Level 4.5, including a first on the high bar with a score of 9.5. He also was second on the floor exercise, third on the vault, fourth on the pommel horse, fourth on the still rings, fourth on the parallel bars and fourth in the all-around.
Geoffery Frazier was third on the vault in boys Level 4.
In girls, Sydney Denecke was sixth in both uneven bars and floor in Level 3, Kanaan Rhodes was third in the floor in Level 4, Holly Schermann was third on the balance beam in Level 4, Randi Wiley was fourth on the uneven bars in Level 5, and Alyssa Garner was third on the uneven bars in Level 5.
The Gator Swim Team picked up two more victories in the Southeast Missouri Swim Conference, winning a meet July 9 at Scott City and July 12 at Cape Girardeau.
The Gators scored 567.5 points in the Scott City meet while the host Dolphins were the runners-up in a four-team meet with 410.5.
The Gators dominated their home meet with 1,076.5 points. Charleston was second with 186 points. Perryville finished fourth in a five-team field with 83 points.
The SMSC Championships are set for Saturday in Sikeston.
