Scott County finishes sweep of Jackson
The Scott County American Legion baseball team finished off a doubleheader sweep of host Jackson late Monday night with a 5-1 victory.
Scott County had captured the District 14 opener 11-8. The second game was a non-district affair.
Scott County improved to 19-8 overall and 4-1 in district play. Jackson is 15-21 and 0-5.
Chris Asmus pitched all seven inning of the 5-1 triumph for Scott County. He allowed three hits and four walks while striking out five.
Scott County had eight hits, led by Alex Chasteen's 3-for-3 performance. Caleb Seyer drove in two runs and stole three bases.
Both teams return to district action today. Jackson visits Cape Girardeau at 6 p.m., while Scott County hosts Sikeston at 6 p.m.
Plaza Tire wins openerin district tournament
The Plaza Tire Cape Girardeau American Legion junior baseball team defeated Sikeston 6-4 in the opener of its district tournament Tuesday in Jackson.
Josh Meyer pitched five inning to claim the victory. He allowed nine hits, two earned runs, struck out three and walked one. Colton Young yielded one hit in two innings to record the save. He struck out two and walked one.
Ryan Grigaitis had two hits and an RBI to lead Cape's seven-hit attack. Blake Smith added two RBIs.
Plaza Tire will face top-seeded Jackson today at 5 p.m.
