Scott County wins wood-bat tournament

The Scott County Senior American Legion baseball team rode an 11-strikeout performance from Andy Stephens to a title at the Charleston Fighting Squirrel wood-bat tournament Sunday.

Stephens went five innings to earn the win in the title game over Charleston.

Blake Dirnberger, Rusty Hendricks and Trenton Moses each had two hits in the win.

Caleb Seyer added a three-run triple for Scott County (7-2). Tyler Beardslee added three RBIs and Moses had a home run and two RBIs.

It was the third year in a row that Scott County has won the tournament.

Scott County Junior Legion wins tourney

Mark Glastetter singled up the middle to knock in the winning run to lead the Scott County Junior American Legion baseball team to victory at the Fulton, Ky., tournament Sunday.

Scott County beat Ballard County (Ky.) 4-3 in the championship game.

Josh Henson and Skyler Cobb each had two hits in the win as Scott County improved to 7-3 this season.

Jaden Pobst struck out 10 batters to earn the win on the mound.

Dombrowski, Crowell win at Dalhousie

Cord Dombrowski and Jason Crowell teamed to win the St. Andrews Flight in the Gentleman's Invitational three-day tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club this past weekend.

Donny Beasley and Don Beasley won the Prestwick Flight; Robert MacGillivray and John Fitzgerald won the Carnoustic Flight; Jim Limbaugh and Bill Seabaugh won the Muirfield Flight; Ken Swinford and John Lichtenegger won the Royal Troon Flight; and Gary Seymour and Arch Kohl won the Turnberry Flight.

Trae Thrower, Fitzgerald, Chris Gregston and Corey McNew won closest to the hole. Richard Montgomery and Bob Johnson, along with Seymour and Kohl, were Pot Game winners.

Steve Otto carded a hole in one on No. 13 with a 5-wood from 168 yards out. Jim Childress, Seymour and Kohl were witnesses.
