Annual rodeo event set for Friday night

Cape's Wildest Roughstock Rodeo is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Cape Girardeau Arena Grandstand in Arena Park.

The event begins with mutton bustin' at 6 p.m. with the rodeo set to begin at 7 p.m. A dance will follow on both nights.

Tickets are $8 for adults and free for children 12 and under.

Events will include barrel racing, bronc riding and bull riding.

Local participants chosen for national event

The first Special Olympics National Summer Games will take place July 2 through 7 in Ames, Iowa, and will include three participants from this region.

Among Team Missouri's 112 athletes, Daniel Fultz from Cape Girardeau will compete in track and field, Bill Mack from Cape Girardeau will coach softball, and Stan Smith from Jackson will coach track and field.

Angle wins Chip A Ways' weekly play of the day

Lil Angle won the play of the day Tuesday in the Chip A Ways competition at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.

Cissy Burnett won the A flight, and Liz Grimes won the B flight.

Bonnie Miller had the low putts.

Cook, Mosse place first in horseshoes tourney

Lachelle Cook and Mike Mosse captured first place in the SEMO Horseshoes Association event Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Leopold.

Cook and Mosse topped a field of 17 teams.

Edgar Stoverink and Cindy Arnzen placed second. Cori Stoverink and Lester Powell placed third.

The association's circuit has two stops this weekend: 1 p.m. Saturday at the Oran Jaycee Park and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Oran.
