Kohlfeld Scorpions won two at home Saturday

The Kohlfeld Scorpions posted two victories Saturday in a three-team tournament at Arena Park in Cape Girardeau.

The Scorpions defeated the St. Louis Hornets 31-15 before knocking off the Southern Illinois University Barbarians 26-17.

In the opener against the Hornets, Scott Johnston, Matt Kruszinski, Alan Kloss and Jeremy Mabrey provided the scoring.

Kloss, Johnston, Marc Harris and Brendan McClarney scored against the Barbarians.

Andy Chesser was named the offensive player of the day, and Kevin Tucker was named the top defensive player.

The Scorpions, carrying a five-game winning streak, will play April 2 in Nashville, Tenn., at the Nash Bash tournament.

The Scorpions will represent the Missouri Rugby Union on April 30 in Dallas, Texas, in a national qualifier match against a team from Denver.

Cape Girardeau man wins at Sikeston races

Ron Simmons of Cape Girardeau was victorious in the Super Pro division competition at the Sikeston Drag Strip on March 12.

Simmons won with an elapsed time of 6.066 seconds on a dial-in time of 6.06. He averaged 113.32 mph.

In the March 19 racing, Donny Drew of Vanduser won the Pro division with a time of 6.889 (6.87 dial-in) and averaged 96.15 mph.

Amateur baseball hall to induct seven

The 23rd annual Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony will be 7 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Hall in Sikeston, Mo.

Among the inductees will be Cape Girardeau's Bill Bohnert and Scott City's Mark Amick.

Also entering the hall will be Charles Van Doren of Perryville, Gene Bess of Poplar Bluff, Gary Owens of Vanduser, S.D. "Sol" Johnson of Sikeston and Don Bruenderman of Charleston.

Tickets, which cost $7.50, are available at the door or from any board member. For more information, call board member Homer Dickmann of Cape Girardeau at 334-1017.

Capahas annual auction scheduled for Saturday

The annual Capahas auction, a major fundraiser for Cape Girardeau's tradition-rich summer baseball team, will be held Saturday at the Cape Girardeau American Legion Hall at 2731 Thomas Drive.

Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and the auction begins at 9:30 a.m. A variety of items will be auctioned off.

National catfish tourney set for Saturday

The first United States Catfish Anglers Tournament Series National Catfish Tournament will be Saturday at Red Star Access in Cape Girardeau. The one-day event is open to nonmembers, but only members will receive points to qualify for the championship tournament. The top five teams automatically qualify for the championship.

The entry fee is $210 per boat (one- or two-person teams). Registration with cash will be accepted on the day of the tournament, which will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Info: (573) 690-3893 or www.uscats.org.
