Southeast signs Minnesota gymnast

The Southeast Missouri State University gymnastics team has signed Stephanie Ashmore of Moorhead, Minn., its first recruit of the season.

The high school senior earned a bronze medal at the 2002 Junior Olympics, where she excelled on the beam.

"She's one of the nation's best beam workers," first-year coach Tom Farden said.

Ramey wins bass fishing event at Lake of Egypt

John Ramey of Cape Girardeau won the Bass Busters of Southeast Missouri tournament Saturday at Lake of Egypt in Southern Illinois.

Ramey won using a Bandit 200 Crankbait. He fished up the lake on channel swings with rock, wood and glass combinations.

David Busch of Cape Girardeau was second using a Foutz's Spinnerbait through shallow grass near the dam.

Ramey also won the big bass award for a four-pounder catch.

Conditions were sunny and cold with a water temperature of 54 degrees.
