Two local girls qualify for Rams PPK event

Two local girls, Sydney Rapp of Jackson and Nikki Chambers of Chaffee, qualified to compete in the St. Louis Rams Team Championship for the NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition.

The annual series of competitions allows children to compete in free local and sectional events in hopes of earning a berth in the home stadiums of NFL teams and a national competition.

The top finishers from sectional events have their scores compared with other winning scores and the top five qualify for the team event.

Rapp had a score of 161 feet, 5 inches in the sectional event earlier this month in Cape Girardeau to earn her spot among 10- and 11-year-old girls.

Chambers, competing in the 14- and 15-year-old girls division, had a total of 211-10 in the sectional. Her sectional score ranked second among the qualifiers.

The will compete in the team championship prior to a St. Louis Rams game at the Edward Jones Dome later this season.

Also advancing from the Cape Girardeau sectional were Adam Stewart of Murphysboro, Ill., 8-9 boys; Tyler Graham, Murphysboro, Ill., 10-11 boys; Dylan Craig, Murphysboro, Ill., 12-13 boys; Tyler Gabbert, Ballwin, Mo., 14-15 boys; Deja Williams, Murphysboro, Ill., 8-9 girls; Sarah MacFarlane, Murphysboro, Ill., 12-13 girls.

Dartball season began Tuesday night

The Cape-Perry Dartball League began its season Tuesday night with a full slate of games.

The league this year has 13 teams with St. Paul Jackson joining the league.

The playoff tournament begins Jan. 30 and will be hosted by Apple Creek.

Yates places second at Sikeston Drag Strip

Gib Yates of Marble Hill, Mo., finished second Saturday in the trophy class at the Sikeston Drag Strip. Yates, who usually races in the ET class, went red on the starting line, which handed the win to Mike Brown of Dexter, Mo.
