Braves win title of SEMO baseball league

The Braves were in an enviable position Saturday afternoon in the SEMO Fall Baseball League.

As one of three teams in a three-way tie on the final day of play, the Braves took care of their business -- barely -- with a sweep of the Red Sox and then watched the other two teams split a doubleheader.

With that, the Braves (8-2) claimed first place in the league for 15- to 18-year-old boys. The Yankees (7-3) took second on the head-to-head run differential against the A's (7-3).

The Braves won a pair of extra-inning games Saturday, beating the Red Sox 3-2 in 11 innings and 5-4 in eight.

Alex Chasteen won the opener in relief of Caleb Daughhetee, who pitched seven innings. Ryan Cheney took the loss.

In the second game, Chasteen again picked up the win, this time in relief of Matt Whitehead. Caleb Guilliams took the loss when the Braves scored on an error.

Bryce Faulkner had three hits for the Braves, including the game-winner in the opening game.

Jacob Valleroy had five hits for the Red Sox (3-7), who finished behind the Cardinals (4-6) and ahead of the Mets (1-9) in the six-team league.

In the second doubleheader, Sam Sander pitched his fifth complete game to lead the Yankees to a 10-2 win in the opener. He struck out 10 and allowed one earned run. Logan Kirkpatrick took the loss.

The A's won 10-5 in the second game with Timmy Bell getting the win in relief. Chad Cook took the loss.

Cook and Aaron Goodson finished the day with three hits each for the Yankees, who were led by Robby Cheney's four hits.

For the A's, Seth Barker had four hits, while Hunter Dillender and Adam Kimball each had three.
