Otahks' Johnson wins OVC volleyball award
Southeast Missouri State University's Emily Johnson is the Ohio Valley Conference volleyball player of the week.
Johnson, a senior outside hitter, had 58 kills, 41 digs, 15 assists and 12 blocks last week as the Otahkians won three matches to move into third place in the OVC. Johnson ranks among league leaders in hitting percentage, kills and digs.
The Otahkians (10-9, 5-2 OVC) have two important conference matches this weekend, facing fourth-place Murray State Friday and first-place Tennessee-Martin Saturday. Both contests begin at 7 p.m. at Houck Field House.
Southeast golfers in 13th place
Southeast Missouri State University had a rough first day at the annual Ironhorse Intercollegiate at Tuscola, Ill.
After the first round, Southeast found itself in 13th place, 21 shots behind leader Cleveland State. Woody Hill led the Indians with a 4-over-par 76. Hill is six strokes behind leader Nathan Colson of Marquette University.
Southeast is one of four Ohio Valley Conference schools playing at the Ironhorse Intercollegiate. Eastern Illinois was the top finishing OVC school on day one in eighth place. Tennessee-Martin and Tennesse State are 12th and 14th respectively after day one.
