Mapes, Mealy capture Ladies Day tourney
Beth Mapes and Deb Mealy won first place in the championship flight of the Cape Girardeau Country Club Ladies Day Guest Day tournament Thursday.
Kathy Morris and Linda Matheson finished second, and Leslie Steele and Jayne Spangler placed third.
Marlena Jones and Sharon Giebler placed first in the A flight. Brenda Vanden Brook and Catharine Weed placed second, and Shirley Moore and Ann Uhls placed third.
Mapes also won closest to the pin honors on No. 11. Others went to Mary Kistner on No. 6, Moore on No. 8 and Sharon Giebler on No. 13.
Morris had the longest putt on No. 9 and Mary Ellen Bean had that honor on No. 18.
Auto racer Joey Mack of Benton, Mo., won a feature and picked up five top-five finishes in the month of September.
His lone win was in a late model feature Sept. 3 at North Mississippi Motor Park in Corinth, Miss., that paid $2,500.
Mack concluded his racing in the Stacker2 Mid-America Racing Series with a 17th-place finish in the series finale Sept. 23 at I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, Mo. That left him 11th in the MARS points final standings.
The Kohlfeld Distributing flag football team and the BAG Boys opened with two wins in their repective divisions of the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department's Adult Flag Football League.
