The event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., gives boys and girls in grades 11 and 12 -- and junior college athletes -- a chance to play before coaches from junior colleges as well as NAIA and NCAA Division II schools. Football

Flag football: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is accepting teams for its seventh annual Adult Flag Football League. Registration deadline is Friday. League will begin Sept. 23 and include three divisions. Games will be played Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons at Arena Park. Season lasts seven or eight weeks and ends with Flag Bowl '04. Punt, Pass and Kick: The Cape Girardeau NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition will be 1-3 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Cape Central Junior High School football field. The competition is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 15 as of Dec. 31, 2004. Entry is free of charge, and participants may register on the same day. No cleats. The top finishers in four age groups for each gender qualify for a sectional event Oct. 10 in Cape Girardeau with top performers eligible to compete in the St. Louis Rams championship. Golf

Tourney benefits students: The alumni from the Southeast Missouri State Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation are sponsoring a golf tournament Sept. 25 to benefit scholarships for students in the department. Event begins 8 a.m. at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. Four-person scramble will be flighted. Cost is $50 per person or $200 per team. Inaugural tournament: The Jackson Rotary Club's inaugural Vernon Kasten Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Sept. 24 at Bent Creek. Shotgun shot at 12:30 p.m. follows lunch. Entry deadline is Sept. 17. Info: 243-8131.

Industry apperciation event: The Industry Appreciation Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, is set for Oct. 4 at Bent Creek in Jackson. Saxony Golf Classic: Bent Creek Golf Club will host the fifth annual Saxony Golf Classic on Oct. 1. The four-person scramble will have shotgun starts at 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Proceeds benefit Saxony Lutheran High School. Field limited to 32 teams in each session. Info: Carol Sparkman, 334-3653.

Running

Remembrance run: The Vicky Keller Remembrance Run is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sept. 25. The 5.35-mile run will take place on the old RiverFest course, beginning and ending at the corner of Broadway and Main. Meal with awards ceremony follows the one-mile fun run/walk. Preregistration fee $15 for the 5.35-mile race; late registration is $19. Preregistration fee $12 for the one-mile run; late registration is $14. Half marathon: The 24th City of Roses Half Marathon is scheduled for Sept. 26. Power walk and noncompetitive runners start at 6 a.m., the rest of the field begins at 7 a.m. The event will begin and end at Arena Park but the new course includes a loop of downtown Cape Girardeau near the Emerson Memorial Bridge. Softball

Coed tournament: The Marble Hill Optimist Coed Softball Tournament is set for Sept. 18 and Sept. 19 at Marble Hill Town Ball Field. Entry for the double-elimination event is $150 per team. Info: Jim Johnson, 238-2265.

Triathlon

Trail of Tears: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department's 15th annual Coors Light/Trail of Tears Triathlon will be 9 a.m. Saturday at Trail of Tears State Park. Fee is $27.30 for individuals, $32.55 for teams in advance; $32.55 for individuals and $37.80 for teams on race day. Also, $9 charge for those who are not USA Triathlon members. Course includes a one-half mile swim in Lake Boutin, a 15-mile bike ride and a four-mile run. Info: Jared Tanz, 335-5421.
