Basketball

Youth tournament: Heartland Pride Sports and the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation are hosting the inaugural Mid America Youth Basketball Tournament July 30 to Aug. 1. The event is for boys and girls in grades 4-12. Entry deadline Friday. For info: 335-4269 or heartlandpridesports.org.

Jackson camps: The Jackson Indian basketball camps will offer a shooting camp for grades 4-7 9 a.m.-noon July 19-23 at the multipurpose gym. Info: Darrin Scott, 204-0171.

Tigers basketball camp: Central High School will host several boys basketball camps in July for those entering grades 3-9 as well as a Little Dribblers camp for boys and girls entering grades 1-3. The cost is $35 for each camp on advance registration with discounts for multiple siblings. Offerings include: Tiger Basketball Camp, July 19-22 (10 a.m.-noon for grades 3-6, and 1-3 p.m. for grades 7-9); High Intensity Shooting Camp, July 26-29 (9-11 a.m. for grades 4-6, and noon-2 p.m. for grades 7-9); Little Dribblers Camp, July 26-29 (2:30-4:30 p.m. for grades 1-3). Central summer camps: Central High School will offer a team camp for athletes entering grades 9-12 on July 26-29, with 6-8 p.m. sessions at the high school ($10 fee). Info: 334-8091.

Scott City summer camps: Scott City will offer a specialty and team camps for Scott City athletes entering grades 9-12 who intend to play football. Sessions are Monday through Wednesday and July 19-23 at Scott City High School. Week one sessions are 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and will focus on individual skills. Tribal Council scramble: Jackson High School's booster club, the Tribal Council, presents its 12th annual Four-Man Scramble Golf Tournament on July 30 at Bent Creek. Lunch precedes a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Entry fee is $75 per person. Info: 243-5168 or 334-2463.

Indian Insider Kick Off Party: The third annual event, a fundraiser for Southeast Missouri State University's football program, will be Aug. 21, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the A.C. Brase Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. A limited amount of tickets are on sale now for this semi-formal occasion. The cost of one ticket is $100 or $150 per couple. Running

Capaha Classic: The 17th annual Capaha Classic 5-kilometer run and children's one-mile run will be Saturday beginning at Capaha Park. The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department sponsors the event with Kidd's and Pepsi. Registration is 7-7:45 a.m. on race day. Southeast camps: The Southeast Missouri State University Soccer Camps include the following sessions: residential camp (coed, ages 10-17), July 29-Aug. 1 with training sessions at Houck Stadium, fees $125 to $200; mini academy (ages 5-11), Aug. 4-6 at Houck Stadium, $40 fee; CAYSA Soccer Camp presented by Southeast coaching staff (ages 5-11), Aug. 9-11 at Shawnee Park complex ($40). CAYSA registration: The Cape Area Youth Soccer Association will conduct registration noon-5 p.m. July 18 and July 25 at Westfield Shoppingtown West Park. Tennis

CATA programs: The Cape Area Tennis Association will offer a number of events this summer: Saturday morning social doubles play, which has started, at Central High School ($1 playing fee); and the Cape Tennis Training Camp, July 26-29, for girls who plan to try out for their high schools' girls teams ($55). Volleyball

Sand tournament: The third annual 4-on-4 Sand Blast Volleyball Tournament, presented by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, will be July 25 at the Arena Park Sand Courts. The coed tournament has a $63 entry fee and requires each team to have at least one female player on the court at all times. Pool play will be followed by a single-elimination format.
