Cape Legion junior team: Tryouts for the Cape Girardeau Legion junior team will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the old Cape Central baseball field. Open to players 16 and under. In case of bad weather, tryouts will be moved to the Central Junior High gym.
Jackson Senior Babe Ruth: Tryouts for the Jackson Senior Babe Ruth will be May 8 and May 15. Sessions will be 1-3 p.m. at the Jackson Legion Field. Open to players 16 to 19 prior to Aug. 1. Players fee is $80. Info: Rick Chastain, 204-1134.
Basketball
High school leagues: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will offer its fourth annual high school girls and boys basketball leagues for players in grades 9-12. Boys league begins June 8 and plays on Tuesdays; girls begin June 10 and play on Thursdays. Sessions will be at the Osage Community Centre and will begin at 6 p.m. Fee is $183.75 per team; the registration deadline is May 14. Juniors event: The Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation's Junior Golf Day is May 22 at the Cape Jaycee Golf Course. Event begins at 8 a.m. and includes a tournament for teams consisting of a junior player (ages 7-16) and an adult player. Juniors also may participate in a drive, chip and putt competition. Kelly boosters tournament: The third annual Kelly Athletic Booster Club Golf Tournament is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. May 24 at Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson. Board of Realtors tournament: The seventh annual Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors Golf Tournament will begin 1 p.m. May 21 at Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson. Friends of St. Francis event: The Ken Hayden Memorial Golf Tournament, a mixed doubles competition to benefit the St. Francis Women's HeartAdvantage program, is scheduled for May 24 at Cape Girardeau Country Club. United Way tournament: The 17th annual United Way of Southeast Missouri Golf Tournament is scheduled for June 7 at Cape Girardeau Country Club. Players pass: Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course will begin offering the Twenty Players Pass on May 7. The pass is $200 and covers 20 greens fees that can be used by any golfer at any time this year for up to 18 holes of play. Pass cannot be used for tournaments. Youth fishing: The 15th annual Youth Catch and Release Fishing Day -- presented by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, the Breakfast Optimist Club and the Missouri Conservation Department -- will be 8:30 a.m.-noon May 15 at the Capaha Park pond. Free clinic: The Cape Area Tennis Association is offering a free youth tennis clinic on May 22 at the Southeast Missouri State University tennis courts, Sprigg and Bertling.
