Basketball

High school leagues: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will offer its fourth annual high school girls and boys basketball leagues for players in grades 9-12. Boys league begins June 8 and plays on Tuesdays; girls begin June 10 and play on Thursdays. Sessions will be at the Osage Community Centre and will begin at 6 p.m. Fee is $183.75 per team; the registration deadline is May 14. Golf

Juniors event: The Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation's Junior Golf Day is May 22 at the Cape Jaycee Golf Course. Event begins at 8 a.m. and includes a tournament for teams consisting of a junior player (ages 7-16) and an adult player. Juniors also may participate in a drive, chip and putt competition. Immaculate Conception scramble: The inaugural Immaculate Conception Golf Scramble will be Monday at Bent Creek Golf Course in Jackson. Challenger camp: The Challenger British Soccer Camp is scheduled for June 28-July 2 at Jackson City Park soccer field No. 1. The camp includes 1 1/2-hour sessions for novice players and three-hour sessions for recreational and competitive players. The staff also will offer a free coaching clinic for parents and coaches. JHS youth camp: The Jackson High School Youth Soccer Camp is open to all youths entering grades 1-8. Camp will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. each evening June 7-11 at the Jackson High School soccer fields. Hershey meet: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will offer the 15th annual Hershey Track and Field Local Meet 9 a.m. June 12 at the Central Junior High School track. Open to boys and girls ages 9-14; $2 entry fee. Six running events, two field events and one relay. Winners advance to June 25 state meet in Jefferson City, with transportation offered by the department. Info available at Osage Community Centre, A.C. Triathlon

Steamboat Classic: The 20th annual event, hosted by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, is scheduled for Sunday. Consists of a 500-yard short-course swim, a 1.5-mile bike ride and a 5-mile run. Begins and ends at Central Municipal Pool. Fee $31 for individuals and $36 for teams not yet registered.
