Notre Dame, Cape Girardeau Central and Jackson will attempt to bring home district soccer championships this week.

Notre Dame is seeded second for the 10-team Class 1A-3A, District 1 Tournament hosted by St. Francis Borgia while Jackson is seeded first and Cape Central third for the five-team Class 4A, District 1 Tournament in Poplar Bluff.

Sporting an impressive 14-4-5 record in what was supposed to be a rebuilding season, Notre Dame will play at 6 p.m. Tuesday, against either Affton or Bayless, who played Saturday.

If Notre Dame wins Tuesday, it will play in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday against either third-seeded Eureka or sixth-seeded Windsor.

The championship game will be played at 6 p.m. Friday.

St. Pius of Festus is the No. 1 seed, with host Borgia fourth and Union fifth.

In Poplar Bluff, Cape Central will be shooting for its sixth consecutive district title, but if the Tigers accomplish that feat, it will have to be considered something of an upset -- at least according to the seedings.

Cape Central has just a 9-12-4 record, but the Tigers came on strong in the last few weeks of the regular season.

Jackson put together a solid regular season with a 12-3-6 record while second-seeded Poplar Bluff probably has its best team ever. The district title should be won by one of the three highest-seeded squads.

Fourth-seeded Sikeston and No. 5 Farmington will open the tournament at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Jackson will play either Sikeston or Farmington at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in one semifinal, with Cape Central meeting Poplar Bluff at 7:30 in the other semifinal.

The championship contest is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
