SEDALIA -- After the first round of the Class 2A state golf tournament at the par-72 Sedalia Country Club, Notre Dame found itself in 11th place out of 16 teams with a team score of 357 Monday.

Tim Buerck and Nick Martin led the Bulldogs with rounds of 83 and 84, respectively, on the par-70 course. Lucas Klein shot a 94 and Derek Welter rounded out Notre Dame's scoring with a 96.

"It's a nice course and fairly challenging, but if you hit greens and fairways, you can score well," said Notre Dame coach Chris Janet. "Tim and Nick are about 34th place right now and only about three or four strokes off all-state status. So they could both compete for all-state honors and we think we can improve on our team score also. We were a bit disappointed with the team score."

Maryville was in first place after the first round with a score of 316.
