Goodale's fish was 18.2 inches long and weighed 3.65 pounds. The Conservation Department says the previous record-holder weighed slightly more than 2 pounds and was caught in 1992 at Wappapello Lake.

The spotted sucker is a common fish found in lowlands of Southeast Missouri and nearby sections of the Ozarks. It prefers clear, warm water with vegetation and little to no current.
