Eric Hayes, age 8, of Cape Girardeau recently won the U.S. Kids Golf Missouri State Qualifying Tournament to gain the rights to play in the second annual U.S. Kids Golf World Championships in Jekyll Island, Ga.

In the Missouri qualifying tournament, Hayes posted a nine-hole total of 42 at St. Andrew Golf Course in St. Charles, Mo., to place ahead of seven other golfers in his age division. He will be one of seven boys and three girls ages 6 to 12 to represent Missouri on Aug. 3-5 at the Jekyll Island Golf Resort.

Hayes, the son of Rocky and Ann Hayes, will be a third grader at St. Vincent de Paul.
