Garcia wins titles at Sikeston tourney
Daniela Garcia, who was the lone senior on the Southeast Missouri State women's tennis team this past spring, won the women's championship at the Ed Nunnelee Memorial tennis tournament in Sikeston this past weekend.
Garcia posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Ali Wulfers of Bloomington-Normal, Ill.
In women's doubles, Garcia teamed with Brigitte Kinnaman of Cape Girardeau to defeat Wulfers and Carrie Larson of Illinois 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
Ken Campbell of Cape Girardeau was part of the championship men's A doubles team, teaming with Steve Wulfers of Bloomington-Normal to defeat Long Le of Sikeston and Darren Neader of Jackson 6-2, 6-2.
Ish Patel of Jackson was second in the men's B singles, falling to Derek Hoppe of Cairo, Ill., 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Molly Proffer of Cape Girardeau fell 7-5, 6-2 to Megan Bowman of Paducah, Ky., in the 13- and 14-year-old girls singles final.
Barb Farrar scored a hole in one Sunday at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.
She aced the 122-yard, par-3 No. 12 using a 3-wood.
Witnesses were Gene Farrar, Brad Farrar and Annette Miller.
Randy Grady was part of two first-place teams the past two weekends in Southeast Missouri Horseshoes Association action.
Grady teamed with Don Riley to win the nine-team event at Benton American Legion on May 29 and then teamed with Dillon Eftink to win the 15-team event Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Oran.
At Benton, Ron LeGrand and Sheila LeGrand were the runner-up team, while Danny Williams and Melody Williams placed third.
At the tournament in Oran, Grady and Elfrink topped Lester Powell and Jake Kluesner for the title. Bob Burnett and Cori Stoverink finished third.
The SEMO Horsehoes Association's next event begins 1 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Leopold.
