Four area golfers teamed to place second in flight A at a four-person scramble at Charleston (Mo.) Country Club on Thursday.

Scorpions open season with sweep in Illinois

The Kohfeld Scorpions opened their fall rugby season with a championship at the Ruggerpalooza tournament over the weekend in Carbondale, Ill.

The Scorpions defeated the Indiana Shamrocks 32-5, the SIU Barbarians 27-10 and the SIU Warriors 47-0 for a 3-0 run. Scorers for the Scorpions were T.J. Ebner, Joey Hann, Marc Harris, Scott Johnston, Alan Kloss, Jeremy Mabrey, Jimmy Randle and Ben Schwab.

The Scorpions play the St. Louis Bombers at Forrest Park in St. Louis on Saturday.

Ramey wins tournament at Lake Wappapello

Steve Ramey of Cape Girardeau won the Bass Busters of Southeast Missouri fishing tournament Saturday on Lake Wappappello.

Ramey caught all his fish using a Blue Fleck Power worm on rocky structure up the river.

Chris Joiner of Jackson took second place and big bass honors by also fishing a Blue Fleck Power Worm in flooded brush in the creeks.

The conditions were severe after a cold front with bright blue skies on cool temperatures.
