All-stars to play for regional title
The Cape Girardeau Cal Ripken U-12 all-stars advanced to the Midwest Plains Regional title game in Grand Island, Neb., with Monday's 11-4 victory against Iowa.
Cape Girardeau will play at 7:30 p.m. today with a berth to the Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, Md., on the line.
Perryville gymnast wins all-around
Abby Naeger of Perryville won the level 5 all-around title in gymnastics at the Show Me Games in Columbia.
Naeger, who competes for Shooting Starz Gymnastics in Perryville, took first place on the vault, bars and floor and third on the beam. She broke two level 5 records.
Maddie Steffens of Perryville took second in the level 6 all-around. She finished first on the balance beam and bars, third on the vault and second on floor.
Brooke Hogard of Perryville took second place in the level 7 all-around. She placed second on the vault, bars, beam and floor.
Cook wins pair of horseshoe titles
Lachelle Cook placed first in both Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association tournaments over the weekend.
Cook teamed with Larry Glastetter to finish first at Saturday's tournament at the Oran Jaycees. Cook then teamed with James Hillis to win Sunday's tournament at the Leopold Knights of Columbus.
Joe Keller and Brad Miller took second while Joe Bean and Lester Powell finished third in Oran.
Carolyn Schreckenberg and Rick Garland took second while Kitty Prindle and Bob Burnett were third in Leopold.
The next tournament is scheduled for Saturday at the Scott City Knights of Columbus.
Beasley team qualifies for national
The team of Donny Beasley, Kevin Ford, Greg Leet and Brevin Giebler shot a 57 to win the Fellowship of Christian Athletes national scramble championship qualifier Monday at Dalhousie Golf Club.
The national championship will be played at TPC Sawgrass.
The team of Jason Comfort, Kyle Christian, Tim Holden and Kell Shenep took second while Jerod Murphy, Derick Rahlman, Ben Brummitt and Jimmy Vernon finished third. Jim Childress, Calvin Matthews, Bryan Johnson and Britt Durham took fourth.
