Rains, Kern team for horseshoe victory

The team of Jason Rains and Rose Kern won the SEMO Horseshoe Association's tournament at the Scott City Knights of Columbus.

The team of Tim Bryant and Terrie Rose placed second, while Bob Burnett and Amy Pobst took third in the 12-team tournament.

The team of Randy Grady and Marvin Margrabe won the 14-team tournament at the Benton American Legion.

The team of Brian Beussink and Lachelle Cook took second, while Randy Senciboy and Carolyn Schreckenberg were third.

The next tournament will be Saturday at the Benton Neighbor Day.

Tewis captures medalist honors

Linda Tewis won medalist honors at the Cape Girardeau Country Club's Women's Golf Association's weekly outing.

Beth Mapes and Mary Ellen Bean tied for first, while Tewis placed third.

King wins at Teen Challenge tourney

Bryan King shot a 72 to win the individual stroke play in the morning portion of the Teen Challenge of Mid America golf event.

Brian Stevens was awarded second after finishing tied at 73 with Nick Accardo. Nathan Meade was fourth at 74.

In the afternoon scramble, the team of Terry Schott, Todd Campbell, Don Latham and Matt Jackson shot a 58 to edge two teams by a stroke.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Mike Johnson (No. 8) and Jack Pettet (No. 13). Accardo had the longest drive, while Schott (No. 4) and Lonnie Nations (No. 18) had the longest putts.
