Golf-a-thon slated for Monday at Dalhousie

Approximately 60 golfers will play all day long Monday at Dalhousie Golf Club to raise money for Teen Challenge International of Mid-America.

The golfers will raise money by obtaining sponsors for the event.

Golfers also will have a chance to win a pickup truck provided by McDowell Ford of Jackson. The first to sink 10-, 30- and 50-foot putts will win the prize.

Flickerwood hosts cowboy mounted shooting

Flickerwood Arena, the Show Me Shooters and the Missouri Big Irons are hosting a Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association competition this weekend. The event began Saturday and concludes today with a session beginning at 10 a.m.

Spectators are welcome. Admission is free.

The event includes competition for clubs in Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois as well as individuals from 11 states. Cowboy mounted shooters wear 1890-period clothing and shoot single action colt .45 replica pistols. The winning club team will take home the traveling trophy for one year.

Cowboy mounted shooting is a fast-paced performance horse competition that requires excellent mounts trained to gunfire and the noise of bursting balloons. Riders are expert equestrians trained in shooting from horseback.

Kuntze has big day in ladies scramble

Joyce Kuntze was part of the winning team and also won a closest to the pin on hole No. 2 Wednesday during the Cape Country Club Ladies Twilight Golf scamble.

Kuntze teamed up with Janet White and Dana Underwood for first place.

Edna Ruth Fischer and Marcia Wagner placed second. Wagner was the closest to the pin on No. 8.
