Belote, McGinnis win annual Lassies' Classic

Betty Belote and Sandi McGinnis won the first hole of a playoff with defending champions Harriette Myers and Diane Fowler to win the Lassies' Classic Thursday at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Both teams finished seven shots ahead of the pack with a two-day total of 131.

The title was the first for Belote and McGinnis. Belote, a member of Kimbeland Country Club, is from Cape Girardeau, while McGinnis is from St. Louis.

Myers and Fowler, both of New Madrid, won the four previous titles and have five titles overall.

Three teams tied for third place at 138.

Obergoenner sixth in Junior PGA tournament

Todd Obergoenner of Cape Girardeau shot a 1-under-par 70 Thursday at the Junior PGA Championship at Westfield Group Country Club in Westfield Center, Ohio.

Obergoenner, who shot a 74 on Wednesday, moved into a tie for sixth. Phillip Bryan of Mustang, Okla., moved into the lead with a 4-under-par 67. Bryan leads Webb Simpson of Raleigh, N.C., by four strokes with Obergoenner nine strokes back.

Pinneo, Teater share 1st at NGA/Hooters event

Jackson's Troy Dooley shot a 4-over-par 76 Thursday at the NGA/Hooters Tour Health Facilities Rehab Outpatient Center Classic at the Bootheel Golf Club in Sikeston, Mo.

Dooley trails the leader, Josh Teater, by 13 strokes entering today's second round. Todd Pinneo of Fayetteville, Ark., is tied for the lead at 9-under-par.

Other area golfers competing in the tournament included Brian Cox (74) of Charleston and Brandon Couch (75) and Jeff Ketterman (75) of Sikeston.
